As of May 1st, Williamsburg Art Gallery has moved to a new, larger studio space within Crossroads Art Center. We are now located right next to the entranceway from Building Two to Building Three.

With the larger space, it means that we are able to accommodate the work of more artists. Many of you may already be familiar with the beautiful paintings of Karen Bonday Williamson who was one of our Resident Artists when we were downtown in Williamsburg (2015-2018) and the incredible wildfowl driftwood creations of National award-winning wood sculptor Bill Casto. We also have the exceptional landscapes and beautiful nature scenes of Charles Bowers who works in the oil medium.

Please stop by and visit Williamsburg Art Gallery's studio space within Crossroads Art Center when you are in Richmond (2016 Staples Mill Rd, Richmond, VA 23230). We have lots more art coming!

Charles Bowers is a New Orleans transplant, Charlie now calls the Virginia coastline home. From swamp to salt marsh, and from rainforests to the Arctic, his art inspiration is found outside, everywhere. The son of Georgia-based artist Nonnie, Charlie grew up in the art community but is himself a newcomer to the professional art world as a painter.

Despite countless efforts by friends and family to encourage the exhibition of his work, this event marks his first-ever exhibition. To see a full catalogue of his work, visit _Coffee_13 on Instagram or contact Charlie at AFcommercialAF@gmail.com.

Bill Casto

Bill Casto, a former William and Mary football coach and Apprentice School Athletic Director, creates nationally competitive wood sculptures. He uses driftwood from local waters and weathered wood to carve interpretive or stylized pieces of art. He attempts to capture the essence of the wildfowl rather than a realistic duplication of his subject. His sculptures emphasize form, content, and movement. They are totally original and one of a kind. In 2013 his entry ‘Crane Dance’ placed ‘Third Best in World’ (Interpretive Division) in the prestigious Ward World Wildfowl Carving Championships. In 2014 his sculpture ‘Swan Dive’ was judged ‘Second Best in World.’ In 2015, his entry ‘Wind Riders’ won First Place, Best in World.

Rob Ijbema

Originally from Holland, impressionist painter Rob Ijbema now lives and works in Wales. His paintings are known for their emphasis on atmosphere, light and movement, rather than detail, which is only hinted at by seemingly random dashes of color. His combination of a delicate impressionist style with a sense of the danger and speed of the Tour de France and in his motor racing paintings, results in powerful artworks. Before turning to paint and brushes to capture pro cycling and racing cars, Ijbema was a scratch model builder producing work for the most famous names in Grand Prix racing.

Karen Bonday Williamson

Karen Bonday Williamson always loved creating art. As a child, she took private lessons, followed by a fine arts major at Virginia Commonwealth University, and a major in computer graphics from Tidewater Community College. She loves color and brush strokes, and uses both to create a lasting image of brief moments of beauty such as a sunrise or a blossoming flower. It is Karen’s wish to share her paintings with those who are looking to add pleasing images and color to their surroundings.
