FAQ
IS THE ORIGINAL ARTWORK FRAMED?
Yes, all original art is one-of-a-kind and comes with a frame selected by the artist and hanging wire in back – ready to hang. The only exceptions are gallery-wrap canvases intended to be hung without a frame.
The dimensions provided are for the image itself and do not include the frames which are of varying sizes. In calculating wall space needed, allow extra space for the outer dimensions of the frame which run on average as follows: Small paintings (image’s greatest length is 16 in. or less) allow 2 to 3 in. extra on each side, Medium-size paintings (image’s greatest length is 18 to 30 in.) allow 4 to 5in. extra on each side, and Large paintings (greatest length is over 30 in.) allow 6-8 in. extra on each side.
ARE THE GICLEE ON CANVAS REPRODUCTIONS FRAMED?
No, giclee on canvas reproductions are sent stretched and are ready to be framed. This allows the buyer to select a frame that is consistent with the décor of where they plan to hang the artwork. Some giclee on canvas reproductions come as gallery-wrap and are so indicated – these do not need a frame and are intended to be hung directly on the wall. Dimensions shown reflect both the image size and the overall size. Please use these dimensions for any frame that may be needed.
ARE THE PRINT REPRODUCTIONS FRAMED?
No, print reproductions are sent ready to be framed. This allows the buyer to select a frame that is consistent with the décor of where they plan to hang the artwork.
WHAT IS A GICLEE ON CANVAS REPRODUCTION?
Digital printing technology has ushered in a range of new artwork reproduction methods for artists. Giclee (often pronounced ‘zhee-clay’ or ‘jhee-clay’) is one such digital printing method. The Giclee has gained wide popularity among both artists and art buyers for the following reasons:
Giclee reproductions are printed using pigment inks. Pigment inks are inherently archival, withstanding the destructive effects of light and humidity for more than 100 years before color fade sets in.
Giclee reproductions are printed on acid-free fine art papers and canvas. The use of acid-free papers and canvas prevents a reproduction from turning brown and brittle over time.
Giclee reproductions are printed in high-resolution using advanced color control technology. This results in reproductions of exceptional detail and color depth. These factors are important elements of high-quality Giclees that capture the look and feel of the original artwork.
A Giclee is considered by many to be the ‘next best thing to an original’ because of its close resemblance to the original, archival qualities, and more affordable price.
