OUR STORY

Welcome to Williamsburg Art Gallery! We are an online art gallery specializing in the beautiful work of acclaimed artist Gulay Berryman who after having lived, traveled, and painted around the world for most of her life, has made Williamsburg, Virginia her permanent home since 2007.

For the artist, the greater Williamsburg region has it all. The relationship between art and history is timeless. The Historic Triangle offers the artist many opportunities to visually bring America's early history to life and offers an equally breathtaking contemporary landscape. It is a land of four full seasons, of incredible foliage and blooming flowers, a variety of birds and wildlife, marshlands, small harbors, panoramic views over rivers and bays, rolling hills, and a natural light that owes much to its mid-East Coast latitudes.  At the end of the day, the Tidewater peninsula is often home to spectacular sunsets.  Williamsburg is a natural and inspiring home for all kinds of artists, whether they are steeped in history, Colonial architecture, the everyday lives of people, drawn to scenic landscapes, or simply seeking a relaxing environment where creativity is encouraged.  

Williamsburg Art Gallery began as a brick and mortar retail art gallery located at 440A W. Duke of Gloucester Street just opposite the College of William & Mary and with views looking down on Merchants Square.   From 2015 to 2018, the 4,600 sq. ft. gallery represented well over 40 artists from all over the US and abroad at any one time working in all of the traditional mediums of painting, drawing and sculpting.  In 2017, Williamsburg Art Gallery was recognized as the ‘Best Art Gallery in Virginia’ and one of the Top 25 galleries in America by American Art Awards.  During these years, we hosted over 50 events which included individual artist exhibits, painting demonstrations, group exhibits and cultural presentations which included symphony, opera, dance, solo vocalists and musicians ranging from the classical repertoire to jazz.   

In late 2018, we decided to transition full-time to an online art gallery to allow for Gulay to get back to painting and to meet the purely artistic needs of our clientele.  In addition to the artwork, on our website, Williamsburg Art Gallery provides art consulting services for both residential, business or government/organizational needs.  Gulay is also available to paint on a commission basis for individual clients.  Please contact us at info@wmbgartgallery.com if you would like to schedule a virtual or in-person visit to view works of original art or discuss the art requirements of any project you may have.  We look forward to being of service!
